Defeated” is the 3rd solo album from Nick Forté. Forté’s first two soloalbums fell squarely in the electronic music camp but “Defeated” tells another tale entirely, acting as a mirrored reflection to his past digital works. Live to cassette acoustic scrape/rattle and misguided pedal loopery is emitted from a pile of junk, grunts, and small instruments. "Defeated" draws inspiration from Forte’s longtime fascination with the free improvisation of early AACM and Incus Records folks, filtered through a more modern noise/tape collage absurdism. Culled from a swelteringly hot, week-long blowout session during the summer of 2008 in his attic studio, “Defeated” has an intimate presence and desperate portrayal of spontaneous, wrinkled sound creation.
